Brahma is the Creator — the source from whom the universe and the Vedas emerged. We turn to him at the threshold of new undertakings: a new venture, a new home, a new chapter of life. Prayer to Brahma is a prayer for the creative power to begin well, and for the wisdom to shape what we begin.
Saraswati is the flowing river of knowledge — goddess of learning, speech, music and the arts, seated on a white lotus with the veena in her hands. Students seek her before study and examinations; artists and speakers seek her for inspiration and clarity; all seekers ask her to dispel dullness of mind and awaken discernment.
Brahma Muhurta
The auspicious pre-dawn hour, roughly ninety minutes before sunrise — the mind is clearest and study, japa and meditation bear the deepest fruit.
Before Study & Creation
A short invocation to Saraswati before opening a book, beginning practice of music, or starting any creative work invites her presence into the effort.
Vasant Panchami
The spring festival dedicated to Saraswati, when devotees wear yellow, place books and instruments at her feet, and children are initiated into learning.
Begin with the short chants for daily japa, and grow into the longer verses as the words become familiar. Chant slowly, with attention on the meaning.

Om Brahmane Namah
Salutations to Brahma, the Creator. A simple daily offering of reverence to the source of all beginnings — ideal for japa of 11 or 108 repetitions.

ॐ वेदात्मनाय विद्महे हिरण्यगर्भाय धीमहि तन्नो ब्रह्म प्रचोदयात्॥
Om Vedatmanaya Vidmahe, Hiranyagarbhaya Dhimahi, Tanno Brahma Prachodayat.

Salutations to Saraswati, with her seed syllable Aim — the sound of wisdom and speech. Chanted before study to sharpen memory, focus and eloquence.

या कुन्देन्दुतुषारहारधवला या शुभ्रवस्त्रावृता या वीणावरदण्डमण्डितकरा या श्वेतपद्मासना। या ब्रह्माच्युतशंकरप्रभृतिभिर्देवैः सदा वन्दिता सा मां पातु सरस्वती भगवती निःशेषजाड्यापहा॥

May Goddess Saraswati protect me — she who is fair as jasmine, the moon and a garland of snow; robed in white, her hands graced by the veena; seated on a white lotus; ever adored by Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and the gods — she who removes all dullness from the mind.
